For over 25 years, we have proudly served as the main contractor, developing hundreds of sections on the Port Hills, including the prestigious Quarry Hill and Redmund Spur premium subdivision developments. Our team recently completed the siteworks and construction for Stage 6 at Redmund Spur, a high-quality subdivision offering breathtaking views of the city and mountains.

We take great pride in our long-standing partnership with the developer, having successfully managed both of their premium subdivision projects. Our dedicated and skilled team has a wealth of experience in hillside developments, which come with their own set of challenges. This expertise allows us to efficiently navigate these complexities, ensuring that each project is completed to the highest standards.

The scope of work for Redmund Spur extends far beyond just site clearing. We have overseen the entire infrastructure development.

Works Completed:

Siteworks: From initial site clearing to ground preparation, we’ve laid the groundwork for a quality subdivision.
Drainage: Comprehensive drainage systems were installed to ensure proper water management, protecting the development from long-term issues.
Installation of Services: Our team coordinated the installation of all necessary utilities, including water, sewer, power, and communications services.
Road Construction: We constructed the main access roads with durability in mind, ensuring smooth, long-lasting infrastructure.
Kerb and Channel: Both kerbing and channeling have been put in place to manage stormwater efficiently and keep the roads in top condition.
Vehicle Crossings & Footpaths: We’ve also completed the installation of vehicle crossings and footpaths to ensure easy access and safe walkways for residents.
Landscape Planting: We’ve added value with carefully planned landscape planting that complements the natural surroundings and enhances the overall aesthetic appeal.
Subcontractor Management: Throughout the project, we’ve managed a variety of specialised subcontractors, ensuring that each aspect of the development – from drainage to landscaping – is executed seamlessly.

Stormwater Superhero Award

In 2023, Red Spur Ltd, in partnership with Earthworks & Paving 2012 Ltd, received the Stormwater Superhero Award for their exceptional efforts to protect local waterways.

This award recognises businesses that show outstanding environmental stewardship—especially in urban areas where stormwater grates often lead directly to rivers and streams. Preventing contaminants from entering these drains is essential for healthy ecosystems.

Red Spur Ltd stood out for their commitment to reducing sediment runoff and managing erosion on the highly erodible Port Hills. Their approach included:

Phasing development to better manage exposed soil across seasons
Using contour banks and drains to improve slope stability
Installing innovative stormwater detention and treatment systems
Collaborating with experts to trial new techniques
Working closely with regulators to solve challenges on site

ECAN WORKSHOP:

During our Redmund Spur project, Environment Canterbury approached us with the opportunity to include our site in their Erosion and Sediment Control Workshop. Our Redmund Spur site was specifically recommended for these site visits due to the implementation of best practice erosion and sediment control measures, as well as the high-quality workmanship demonstrated by the contractor.

This recognition highlights our commitment to maintaining industry-leading standards in environmental management.
